People search for an email checker inside Semrush for a sensible reason: it is the platform they already pay for, and a deliverability problem shows up as a marketing problem. The instinct is right. The tool just sits somewhere else.
One app. The Semrush Email Verifier validates addresses in bulk, described on their own page as cleaning your lists to maximize deliverability. That is a real job and a useful one: a list full of dead addresses burns your bounce rate and your sender reputation before your copy gets a chance.
What it answers is is this address valid. It does not answer is my sending domain configured correctly, and the second question is the one that sinks most cold campaigns.
Nothing in the Semrush toolkit reads the DNS records that decide whether a receiving server trusts your mail. No SPF check, no DKIM lookup, no DMARC policy read, no authentication audit. That is not a gap in the product so much as a different category: Semrush is built for search and content, and these records live on your sending domain.
The good news is that this half costs nothing anywhere, because it is a public DNS lookup. Anyone charging you for it is charging for a query that takes a second.
Three records, three questions, and each has one honest answer.

We ran this audit across a whole industry to see how much it matters: of 156 B2B lead generation and outbound agencies, 87 carry at least one real defect in their own authentication, and only 30 enforce DMARC at reject. The people selling outbound get this wrong more than half the time.
This is where Semrush's app belongs, and where paid tools in general are reasonable, because someone has to actually test whether a mailbox accepts mail.
If you are already buying a finder, verification usually comes bundled and you may not need a separate subscription. Hunter charges half a credit per verification alongside the finder. Snov.io includes a verifier in the same bundle as its drip module and LinkedIn extension. Anymail Finder goes further and only charges when it returns an address it has verified as deliverable.
One warning that applies to every verifier: catch-all domains accept everything, so no verifier can confirm an individual address on one. That is not a weakness in the tool, it is how the receiving server is configured, and it is covered in verifying catch-all emails.
Blocklist status. It is the first thing people want when deliverability drops, and it is the one thing a browser cannot ask, because the major lists refuse queries arriving through public DNS resolvers.
We measured how badly that fails. Across 320 queries to the published test points of four blocklists, through Google Public DNS, Cloudflare, Quad9 and OpenDNS, Spamhaus returned the correct answer between 40 and 75 percent of the time depending on the list and resolver. Every failure came back as NXDOMAIN, which in the protocol means not listed. A refused query and a clean domain produce the same answer, so a checker cannot tell them apart and shows you a green tick either way.

Authentication first, because it is free and it is binary. SPF exists and is single. DKIM signs on the selector your sender uses. DMARC is published and you know which policy you are on. Then verify the list. Then, and only then, worry about copy and volume.

Any tool that reads the record and tells you what it says rather than scoring it. The thing to avoid is a checker that flags a missing DKIM key as a failure, because DKIM keys live on selectors that cannot be enumerated from outside a domain, so no external tool can prove a key is absent. Ours reports what it can see and says plainly what it cannot know.
